Same for me. I now realise that the OP wanted some math book similar to
Feynman lectures. I don't think this exists, math is traditionnaly teached
in a logical progressive way, which means that you need a lot of time to
reach the mathematical sophistication necessary to enjoy the "real" stuff.
Perhaps Hardy and Wright is one  of the few books being accessible at an
"elementary" level (whatever that means) and still containing nice elegant
mathematics, with a variety of approaches, some algebra, some analysis,
some combinatorics. But even this book is not accessible to the total
beginner.
