Thanks, Robert. What do others think on the question of including Mockmma in a future Maxima distribution? If not that, then perhaps there is some intermediate ground where Mockmma could enhance the Maxima project. For instance, it would be useful for new Maxima users with Mathematica experience to have a Maxima function which takes a string (say "PrimeQ[23]") and prints and evaluates the Maxima counterpart ("primep(23)").
Another direct contribution might be an automated translation of functions in a third party Mathematica package. An example might be "FromCycles" in the Combinatorica package, whose authors have given permission.
