XEmacs + maxima mode bug

Barton, I'm running gnu emacs 21.4 with an inferior maxima major mode
and abbrev minor mode. I've only been able to make it freeze like you
describe once, and control-g unfroze it. 

Do you have similar problems in shell-mode?

(Most likely you know this, but you don't need to edit lines in the inferior
maxima session, you can split your screen with source in one and maxima
in the other, and C-cC-nf will copy a block of source into maxima and
execute it.)
