Yes, all recent vcs give users lots of rope to hang themselves with.
It can be difficult to deal with multi-headed vcs.
Merge commits, in particular, can create problems. We have one such
problem in the master branch of which I am aware. My point is that, were
developers to commit to a pre-release branch, the project leader ought
to be able to catch these problems and keep the master branch clean.
