INstalling on Ubuntu

You can compile Maxima from the binary gcl in the Ubuntu repositories.
To compile Maxima with gcl on a Debian-based distribution, you must do

dpkg-reconfigure gcl

(as root) and choose the ansi-compatible option. Likewise for gclcvs,
if you want to use that.

After that, you can build Maxima using the usual

./configure --enable-gcl ...
make

routine.
