I dunno -- seems like it would be useful if you could build Maxima
from a tarball + Lisp.
I guess a tarball contains share-subdirs.lisp, right?
So OP's problem is building from CVS or something like that.
I still think it would be useful to build at least the executable
without dealing with automake & friends.
Is share-subdirs.lisp generated by bash or Lisp or what?
If it's the output of some Lisp program, seems like (configure)
could run it.
