The integrand is not nasty. It is a simple smooth function. exp(-x^4) is
not nasty any more than exp(-x^2). I am not sure what you are talking about.
This is a simple integrand. So is exp(-x^6), exp(-x^8) etc... There is no
reason why the integral should be discontinuous.
