Function returning the version number

Hi,

is the a possibility to get the version of Maxima within a Maxima 
session,
i.e. a function which returns the version number (NOT within the 
command line
like "maxima --version")?

I have not found any possibility yet.

That would be very useful for conditionals like
"if version < 5.25 then ... else...;"
