gnuplot integration in OSX - no console with <space>

Since I can produce 3d-plots setting term to x11 I'm quite happy. A weird observation: all keys from mouse support seem to work (see http://www.cs.unc.edu/~jeffay/dirt/FAQ/gnuplot.html) except <space>.
Is there any other way to get the gnuplot console?
