how about we get rid of "fast arrays"



We don't have to actually *remove* the feature; we can simply 'deprecate'
it.  That is, saying that it is still there but that we don't intend to
maintain it in any way (no new documentation, features, testing, tuning,
etc. -- and less enthusiastic help on the mailing list) and don't recommend
that you use it unless you have existing code that depends on it.  All that
requires is adding the word DEPRECATED to any related documentation....
