Strange windows install problem

Hi there,

A friend is trying to install Maxima on Windows XP (service pack 2, I
think). He downloaded version 5.28.0-2 from Sourceforge and installed in
the obvious way. (Bundled with gcl, from the looks of things)

Strangely, whenever he tries to run wxMaxima or xMaxima, he gets an
error from maxima.exe (code 0xc000001d: not sure what that means
though). We've tried disabling DEP on the maxima.exe binary, but this
doesn't seem to have any effect.

Running via the command line using the included maxima.bat seems to work
fine.

Does anyone have any idea of other things we should try? I'm a bit
clueless when it comes to strange Windows errors...
