That's confusing. I've just tried it at my end. With a "clean" tree
(that I'd been working on with SBCL, in fact), I run
./configure --with-clisp
make
It builds Maxima with clisp. So far, so good. Then
rm -rf src/binary-clisp
make
And it recompiles. Am I doing a different sequence of steps from you?
