Maxima on Mac OS X?

Dear Honda san,

Thanks for your reply. I started by downloading and trying to build gcl
2.4.0. The first problem is that the configure step can't determine the
machine type. This may be due to the fact that there is no Mac OS
X/Darwin/PowerPC-specific code in the build.

The real problem is that 'make' gives me this result, immediately:
   $ make
   make: *** No rule to make target `h/config.h', needed by
`h/cmpinclude.h'.  Stop.

And there is, in fact, no file called 'h/config.h'. As far as I can
tell, this is because, somewhere in the mysterious, twisty, passages of
'configure', it's getting called (recursively?) with the "no_create"
flag set. But as I said, I'm no expert.

It's possible that I should use an earlier version of gcl; what's
recommended? The web site wasn't specific.

The same goes for 'maxima' itself. I downloaded (but have not yet
built) maxima 5.6. Is this the version I should use?

Regards,

Justin
