Re: Maxima release?

About a new release. A suggestion.

1. There is plenty of room between 5.6 and 5.9 ;-)

2. There are in this list questions about many releases
of Maxima with many different lisps. It would be interesting
to have only 2 versions of Maxima :
   a) the "official" last release in tar.gz or so, with number
      5.7.x,  0 <= x <= big number, with many bugs (but don't worry,
      Maple has bugs too).
It is important to test the installation of a frozen
version too, to enhance it, to test the documentation, etc....
Many people interested by Maxima don't want to struggle
      with the cvs tree.
   b) the CVS version with or without number 5.8.y, with many
bugs but don't worry (see supra).
When the bugs will be considered as acceptable or non urgent
by Jim, a real 5.9 will be launched and a CVS with or without
   another number.

So everybody asking questions will have to give a reference to
only 1 version of Maxima between 2 (frozen or cvs) and 1 version of
Lisp between 3 (?). It seems to work fine with Pari/Gp.

Best regards.
