Why??

By the way - does anyone know about how we might debug the extremely
long startup times on Windows xmaxima? It may not be a killer for
5.9.0 but I'd definitely say it will need to be fixed at some point,
and if people are going to use 5.9.0 real world it won't give them a
very good impression. Is there any way we could try using the clisp
binary that team provides to build maxima, and see if that works
better? My attempts to build on Windows have so far been less than
spectacularly successful, but maybe we could try that setup in hopes of
beating the long startup times?
By the way Jim - the release stuff looks great. My only comment is
that you might want to say a new (much better!) emacs mode has replaced
the old one - as I understand it, Jay's stuff wasn't just an extension
of what was already there. That's a minor point, maybe - Jay, what do
you think?
