On my machine (PowerBook G4, Mac OSX 10.2.3/Darwin 6.3) I was able
to successfully compile RC3 using clisp-2.30. I didn't have any of the
errors discussed in the thread
[Maxima] Compile problem under RH 8.0 using CLisp
from last October. With RC4, those errors have returned (in particular,
the build failure when loading bessel.fas).
I'll try downgrading to 2.29, but it is unusual that RC3 built without
problems on 2.30. Perhaps this will help find where the bug lives.
