Great!

If nobody is already working on this (or planning to do so) I'd like
to (re)implement the series package (of which we do have a description
in archive/share/unknown/series.usg).  Whittaker & Watson has a nice
explanation of the method in chapter 10.

As for the Lie group methods please take a look at

ftp://ftp.mines.colorado.edu/pub/papers/math_cs_dept/software/symmetry

They make it freely available for scientific use.  Perhaps it doesn't
need much effort to make it run in Maxima.
