Dear James,
Recently the person from Ukraine (Sergey Semerikov) contacted me.
He is involved in project which disseminate free software for
education of physics and mathematics in high school and University.
It is turned out, that there are a lot of people who are interested
in Maxima from this point of view. Naturally, localization is
strongly desired for this purpose and Sergey is willing to
join Maxima project as translator to Ukrainian and Russian
languages. Would you be so kind as to add him to the
Maxima SF project as translator. His SF nick is semerikov.
Personally I'm very pleased by such development. It seems that
_free_ and _open_ _source_ nature of Maxima start working
and really attracts people. Lately there was some discussion
concerning Maxima internationalization and localization.
So maybe it is time to do something practical about it.
I don't mean any Unicode support or localized Maxima internal
commands but rather translation of Maxima documentation.
First of all - Maxima Reference Manual and ?/describe command.
My idea is that describe can be made locale sensitive and online
documentation (info and html files) can be installed as language
packs.
Best wishes,
Vadim
