I never got it running.  However, I did download and burn a Quantian_0.4 
CD (mentioned previously),
and could run Linux + TeXmacs + Maxima from the CD.  The OS also 
provides web
browsing and (I guess) read-only access to your hard disks.  I used a 
floppy disk to
store bits and pieces I wanted to preserve.

Apparently you need to run CLISP on Cygwin with TeXmacs.  Too much 
hassle for
me.
