We are working on releasing 5.9.1 "soon", but I'm not sure how much
longer it will take. I would guess a few weeks. One of the primary
reasons to release 5.9.1 soon is the clisp 2.31 problem.

Perhaps someone would like to prepare an "official" patch to apply in
the meantime?
