As a practical issue, Maxima must work well on MS Windows, politics be
damned. I don't really care *how* it does that, but it's got to be
comfortable for Windows users. Right now, I believe that to run an X
application under MS Windows, you must create an X desktop window, and
run your X applications within that window. What's more, the X desktop
window is not resizable. That is a very clumsy way to operate. In
fact, it's an important reason that I'm not using Texmacs.
But maybe I'm missing something. Perhaps there is already software that
allows you to run an X application in a window that looks like just
another MS Windows window. If there is, please let me know! It doesn't
seem technically infeasible, but someone's got to do it. I don't even
know what such a thing would be called: a single-window X server?
