I've started work on a new GUI for Maxima. I've called it Kayali and you can
see the website at http://kayali.sourceforge.net/ .
The GUI has been built in python and uses the Qt libraries (which are also
used by KDE). Long term, this could be changed to C++ but not until the
basic application has settled down.
Currently I am focussing on the type of maths used by UK 'A-level' students,
that is simple algebra, calculus, matrices, graphs. I have the medium term
goal of supporting the advanced features of Maxima. Please help me to get
there by suggesting what needs to be done!
On the web site there are some screenshots, which will give you a better idea
of where I am going with it than any amount of waffle here.
What I am hoping is that, although it is an alpha release, any Maxima/Qt
users out there (and I hope there are some) could try this app out before I
go too far down the wrong path. Also, there is a lot of room for
improvement in the overall way of doing things and I would love to hear your
ideas on where to take this. Even if you don't have Qt, please take a look
at the web site and let me know what your suggestions are.
I would also like to hear opinions as to which areas of Maxima I should
concentrate on first (polynomials, calculus, definite integrals, matrices?).
I am anticipating some people having problems running Kayali. If this
includes you, then please let me know what the problem was so that I can fix
it.
Thanks,
Abdulhaq
