You are correct; I'm running automake 1.8.5.  The fact that the info
pages don't get made and installed is not a major problem as this is
trivial to do manually.  However, describe() still doesn't work, even
though the complaint about not finding the info directory doesn't
happen.  Is that an automake problem too?
