Newbie Question - How to exit GCL interpreter??

Hello Maximists,

To follow up on the question posed by Juan Pablo Romero --
it appears that he is getting stuck in the gcl interpreter
during "make", which I believe shouldn't happen.
It seems to have something to do with DEFPACKAGE -- one
of the error messages is

Error: DEFPACKAGE::OPTION is invalid as a function.

Was some related functionality recently changed?

Juan Pablo -- if you enter "(quit)" at the gcl ">>" prompt,
that should terminate gcl. But when we fix this problem,
"make" will succeed without getting stuck in gcl.

Hope this helps,
Robert Dodier

PS. These are the error messages which Juan Pablo sent me,
which I take the liberty of repeating here:
