hello cliff,
> What are the changes in our version?
doc/info/texi2html is a copy of version 1.52 by "kb"
(probably karl berry). comments by bill schelter suggest the
key problem is that later versions of texi2html use tables,
which netmath (now called xmaxima) cannot render.
using xmaxima, i have browsed the spanish and portuguese
html pages (generated by texi2html 1.76) and, indeed, xmaxima
doesn't render tables. however tables do not appear in the
main body of the text; only the index and overview (maxima.hmtl)
use tables. the TOC is not a table.

i don't think describe could be part of the problem, since
the .info files are not generated by texi2html.

it seems messy to use different versions of texi2html for
different languages, but doc/info/texi2html doesn't treat
accented characters correctly.
i guess some options are
(1) fix doc/info/texi2html to handle accents (and use it throughout).
(2) fix xmaxima to render tables (and use 1.76 throughout).
(3) use 1.76 throughout (and just live with xmaxima).
(4) continue to use private copy for english and 1.76 for others.
i don't know how much work are (1) or (2).
(3) and (4) have the advantage of zero effort, i guess.
a comment by jim amundson in the cvs log (2002/04/03) says
"We should probably try to switch back to the official version
of texi2html some time in the future."
all the best,
