I don't see such problem.
On Windows Me/2000/XP in idle state maxima don't eat CPU.
But from time to time I experience something
similar. When I close xmaxima window maxima
process remains running and in this very case it
eats 100% CPU. This is useless process and the
only resolution -- kill it in task manager.
I don't know how to reproduce the problem
with 100% probability -- it happens to me
not quite often.
