texmacs & other notepad interfaces

> TeXmacs interface to maxima can do all of this.

TeXmacs is pretty impressive, but it has some characteristics
that are going to make it unpopular with ordinary users.

It's slow. Sure, I should buy a new computer.
It's flakey. When I type some stuff, the stuff I typed
on other lines blinks. Crashed with a segfault
during a search and replace. There are various other
minor oddities I noticed while working for a while.
The look and feel is wierd too.

That said, probably the shortest path to a notebook-style
editor which is suitable for the masses is to fix the bugs
in TeXmacs, instead of launching another project.

For what it's worth,
