confilict between Maxima and a synchronization utility

Occasionally users report that Maxima does not start. The usual
assumption is that a firewall setting is the culprit---here is another
possibility: I experienced a problem with a trial version of a file
synchronization utility that came with a flash drive. After loading
the utility, Maxima did *not* run --- command line Maxima would open a
window that immediately closed; wxMaxima displayed a message something
like "Maxima process halted"; and xmaxima timed out. I deleted the
utility and returned to the file synchronization utility that is a
part of XP (it seems to work OK).
