If you are installing packages via rpm, try the --nodeps
(no dependency check) option.
Otherwise -- there might be some nodeps-like option for
whatever package tool you are using.
If you have time, maybe you would file a bug report about
this with the maintainers of the Ubuntu package.
(I don't know who that is.)
