Fwd: Using Maxima on OSX?

I used darwin ports to install maxima. It took one command to verify that ports
knew about maxima and one more to install it. The ports system downloaded sbcl,
installed it, downloaded maxima, ran a lengthy install process and saved a core
file.

Interestingly, the reason that I was doing this was to try out Mathdragn. It is
a very appealing system that has the potential to remedy the lack of control
that is such a problem with CAS systems. Even without a math kernel attached it
can be used for some very nice things.

Unfortunately, I can't get it to talk to my new maxima. The easiest problem was
that mathdragn wanted 5.9.1 and I have 5.9.3. Once that is solved, I had other
exceptions that leave the UI in a non-responsive state.
