I don't see a need to finish by April 1. Also you don't need to stop
when the release branch is made. If you continue to work on the
trunk then the changes you make after the branch have no effect
on the 5.12.0 release, which, I believe, is just what we want.
So in summary I think you should just continue as you have been doing.
