Well, the next Maxima release (5.12) will be before the end of April.
Next one after that will probably be in August.
I'm not too concerned about squashing this particular bug or
working around it. You can look at the bug tracker and see for
yourself that this is far from the biggest problem. Be that as
it may, I appreciate your effort to track down this problem.
