Actually I just realized that this is not true! The maxima I was
running is the one that comes with sage-2.4.2. I don't know if this
matters. In any case, now I have updated to maxima 5.12 (the one
that comes with Debian) and the situation is similar to what you
describe. The output prompt is inserted together with the output
but no extra spaces.
I noticed the following additional problem though. With the
standard maxima mode when there is output already present it is
replaced by the new outcome. With imaxima however If there is
already an output when I give "C-u C-c C-n -r" emacs hangs. The old
output is erased and the region is send to imaxima, and there is
output in the *imaxima* buffer -- all output but the last -- but
after sending the last command emacs seems to go to an infinite
loop. I have to "C-g" and then "C-c C-c" to be able to get maxima
back.
Thanks,
Nikos
