If you are running debian version 5.13.0-3.2 then this is my
fault. The version of maxima currently in unstable does not support
command line editing unless you run rmaxima. The missing banner is
also my fault.
Both of these will probably be fixed relatively soon when Camm gets
5.15.0 uploaded.
In general, when you upgrade software in debian, and it stops working the
way you expect, please consult /usr/share/doc/$packagename/README.Debian
