Problem with Maxima 5.17.1 and ECL 8.12.0

Some more attempts:

Since I don't know how to update the 5.17.1-distribution
(it doesn't match what you find in CVS) I did the following:

Now I pulled the complete maxima-module from CVS:

cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous at maxima.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/maxima co -P maxima

there I removed directories CVS, admin and archive, and copied the rest to the
unarchived 5.17.1 (in this way overwriting the old stuff,
while keeping the files which are in 5.17.1 but not in the maxima-module).

In this way I should get everything (?). However the error message is
exactly the same.
