why should one get a "non-numeric" warning for this
plot2d example?

(%i20) plot2d ( [ u^2, u^3 ], [ u, 0, 2] , [ y, -2, 4 ] )$
plot2d: expression evaluates to non-numeric value somewhere in plotting 
range.
