Hello Stavros,
I know the work of Avgoustis and because I have done a lot of work on
$specint and some work on $hgfred I think I know some advantages and
some limitations of the approach (and some more bugs and problems). I
have already started to improve $hgfred to get more simplifications for
hypergeometric functions too.
Furthermore, we have the code to integrate the direct hypergeometric
function. Therefore, it might be really the time to try to implement
some special functions using a hypergeometric representation.
