that's a bug in a very old version of Maxima, which was fixed a long
time ago. Instead of 'lines 3', it should say 'lines lt 3'.
You are not really getting an error message, but rather a warning
telling you that the lines option was ignored.
To make that warning disappear, please update to a more recent version
of Maxima. If you update to 5.21 you will also see
that the plot looks much nicer.
