Ah yes, this idea occurred to me a while ago, too. What could be done is
to run a webserver within the maxima image, and have a bit of javascript
running in the browser to handle a plot (i)frame and output coming back
as (La)TeX from maxima. MathJaX, for example, can render LaTeX in any
useful browser.
