Hi,
I think that what you are missing is that you have not apply the patch.
In order to try pwilt, you should get the
file that was supposed to be attached to the email message you
mentioned, which actually appeared in the following message
(http://www.ma.utexas.edu/pipermail/maxima/2011/024968.html) and apply
it as a "patch" to modifiy the original source code of Maxima.
