OK, I asked the Texinfo developers about redefinition of @var and they
said it's discouraged, although there isn't any strong reason for it,
and one of them said he has mixed feelings about that policy.
So at this point I'm still against the patch. I'm willing to put up with
the warning message about redefining @var -- it is harmless.
