Yes, I like that better and as a matter of fact it wouldn't be too 
difficult to let preamble still work for backwards compatibility.

Yes, since you suggested that last week I have thought about it and I 
think the best solution is to add something such as gnuplot_plot_command 
and gnuplot_splot_command that the user can set to the name of a 
function that he has already created and that will be used instead of 
the default one.
I didn't do it yet because that involves more risks and needs more 
testing so it is better to do it after this release.
However, for the change preamble-epilogue --> prefix-suffix (or 
preamble-postamble?) I guess I'm still on-time because Robert has not 
frozen the release branch yet.
