maxima.el: maxima-send-buffer

Am trying out maxima mode here, emacs is:
GNU Emacs 21.2.1 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit)
on a
Linux 2.4.19 i686 unknown

have loaded both maxima.el and maxima-font-lock.el

I get into maxima mode OK, and font-lock looks good, but when I tried
maxima-send-buffer, I got:

save-excursion: Symbol's value as variable is void: comint-last-input-start [2 times]

Known bug? Any advice?
