gentoo problem

It's masked, which probably means it's not considered stable on that
platform on gentoo yet.  I don't know the details of that particular
aspect of the maxima ebuild, so I could be wrong.

It's been more or less a collaborative effort.  I've had some hand in
it, although I didn't handle the really tough technical parts.  Search
the old bugs on bugs.gentoo.org for maxima - that's where most of the
activity took place.

I should note that maxima on gentoo is not likely to be stable until
the next maxima release - the lisp ebuilds have outrun maxima 5.9.0. 
So rather than muck with what it would take to get 5.9.0 to behave
well, we're essentially waiting for 5.9.1 to put all the pieces
together.  Right now, for example, only cmucl is working properly even
on the x86 platform.  With 5.9.1 the situation should improve.  Until
then, I'd recommend building cvs rather than using the ebuild.
