Hi Jaime,
Speaking of search in the browser, here is another thing that I think
would be extremely useful.
"Search in the editor, both input and output."
I have not tried to use maxima with the emacs
interface. Maybe this search capability is already there.
In any event, I have been using xmaxima to study certain mathematical
objects. This, involves defining various functions and values--in
fact very many of them. They scroll off the screen for many pages. For
instance, I have some with beginning names ws_1, ws_2, ws_tmp, etc.
I can list them with the 'values' and 'function' commands, but this
only give all the names. I can't get immediately to the relevant
ones, and I can't narrow the search down.
When I want to recall some objects and change parameters, it would be very
convenient to be able to do
"C-r ws" (as in emacs)
(or, open a search dialong box, etc) to search for them in the
previously defined screens.
At present, my procedure is the following:
save the input to a file,
open a separate emacs window for this file,
search for the proper object,
cut and paste it into my current xmaxima session.
All possible, but cumbersome.
BTW, if anyone out there has suggestions, I'd be happy to receive them
(by direct email or on the list).
So, I am putting my request in for some kind of search capability of
strings in the editing window (for both input and output).
Thanks for your taking the time to consider these things.
Regards,
-sen
