I changed the working directory for the menu shortcut,
but it doesn't seem to have any effect.
After some more experimentation, it appears that the language selection
has nothing to do with the problem. It appears that wxMaxima starts
successfully if there is already one instance of wxMaxima running.
I.e. first instance of wxMaxima yiels "Waiting for connection ..." while
the second one (while the first is still running) succeeds.
